How motion effects are displayed in the sequence grid

Motion effects can be displayed in the sequence grid 3 different ways. Use this selection to choose the one you prefer.

With any of the 3 options, you can see more detail about an effect by:

1.hovering your cursor over an effect to see the effect's name (requires tool-tips to be enabled)

2.double-click on the effect to open it in the Motion Effects Generator, or

3.single-click on the effect and it will be displayed in the playback window (assuming the playback window is not hidden).

Motion Effect Icons

MotionEffectIcons

This option displays motion effects using an icon. Each icon is specific to the unique effect - reflecting the palette and options chosen for that effect.

Icons get generated as the motion effects first scroll into view on the sequence grid. So it is expected that motion effects will briefly display using the alternating colors scheme, and then change to an icon.

To see the icons more easily, increase your sequence grid row height.

It is possible to get a completely black icon. If that happens, you can use any of the 3 actions listed above to get more information about the effect.

Motion Effect Names (4 letters)

Motion effects with naming enabled

This option is like the alternating colors option except that the first 4 letters of the effect's name are displayed on top of the effect color. This can help identify the effect without needing to hover over it to see the tool-tip. In the example above, you can see that the first row contains a series of Color Wash effects, the second contains Bars effects, and the third row contains Spiral effects.

Motion Effects With Alternating Colors

Motion effects with alternating colors

This options displays the motion effects using 2 alternating colors. Colors change where one effect stops and the next effect starts. The colors shown on the grid have nothing to do with the colors that are used in the effect. Use "Grid color 1" and "Grid color 2" to set the 2 colors displayed on the sequence grid for motion effect rows.

Motion Row Order

This option controls whether motion rows are listed foreground layer to background layer (first option) or background layer to foreground layer (second option). This is explained further in the section about layers.

Foreground Layer On Top

MotionRowOrderForegroundOnTop

In this mode, the foreground layer is always shown on top and the background layer is always shown at the bottom - in Manage Motion Effect Rows and in the sequence grid. In this mode, you are not allowed to rearrange motion effect rows in the sequence grid.

Foreground Layer On Bottom

MotionRowOrderBackgroundOnTop

In this mode, the background layer is always shown on top and the foreground layer is always shown at the bottom  - in Manage Motion Effect Rows and in the sequence grid. In this mode, you are not allowed to rearrange motion effect rows in the sequence grid.

Unstructured

In this mode, Manage Motion Effect Rows will show the foreground layer on top. However, you are free to arrange the motion rows in any order on the sequence grid. You can also organize the motion rows for a prop into grid view groups.
