We created a way to mix and match modules so a simple DIO (digital input output or digital I/O) board can be different things to different people, depending on exactly what you need.

By starting with a main board that provides the basic interface to the Light-O-Rama data network, you can mix and match different modules for high voltage/high current AC environments as well as simple relays or low voltage digital I/O ports.  This main board and add-on module(s) is meant for unique environments where none of our other controllers are a good fit.  Rest assured that our DIO32 series will let you control your show.


The DIO32 digital I/O main board can be used to handle up to 32 channels of digital input, digital output, high voltage AC and servo control.  Daughter boards provide high voltage/high current AC dimming capabilities.  Other daughter cards provide simple DIO connectivity.


DIO32 Main Board

Light-O-Rama DIO32 32 Channel Digital Input/Output MotherboardIt starts with the DIO32 main board.  The DIO32 is a 32 channel digital controller that can be used in a LOR Network or in a DMX512 universe to perform digital input, digital output, dimming and servo control.  This DIO main board has four eight-bit ports.  Each eight-bit port can be configured independently and to each port you can connect one of our available daughter boards.

The 32 I/O channels are fully buffered and each channel is capable of sourcing or sinking 24 ma at 5 VDC. The DIO32 may be used without any of the daughter boards depending upon your application.

The Light-O-Rama Showtime Sequencing Suite software is used to design and build sequences the board then executes (controller commands that may be choreographed to audio/music.)  These user created sequences and/or pre-programmed musical sequences are then arranged into Shows.  Shows are played by your PC or one of the Light-O-Rama ShowTime Directors.

This DIO controller also can be used in a stand-alone animation sequence mode (sequence with no accompanying audio), meaning it can control itself without an external computer.  The required sequence of commands (up to approximately 5000)  you create with our sequencing software can be downloaded into the flash memory of the DIO32 controller.  These commands can also be for controllers other than this controller, so this controller can direct a network of controllers.  There are no restrictions on the types of LOR controllers in this network.

Already have a communications infrastructure using DMX-512 typically used in the entertainment industry?  We’ve got you covered.  Light-O-Rama light controllers are smart enough to analyze the type of data network they are connected to and adapt to DMX-512 if needed.  Depending on the unique network assigned to your Light-O-Rama controller, it will occupy that DMX-512 address plus the next 31 addresses (for a 32 channel controller.)  The control channels (depending on the controller) must be in the same DMX-512 universe

Connecting everything

DIO32 basic Layout

1.  The Light-O-Rama ShowTime Sequencing Suite works on your personal computer running Microsoft Windows and allows you to design your own shows.  The ShowTime Sequencing Suite then runs your shows and sends the right commands at the right time to the various control channels.  The ShowTime  Sequencing Suite can even keep music synchronized to the controller commands.

2.  Speakers to play the music accompanying your show are attached to the computer sound card.

3.  Your personal computer communicates to the controllers using a device plugged into your computer’s serial or USB communications port.  The blue line shows the standard serial output of your computer (RS-232 or USB) out of your PC where it enters our converter that transforms the signal to the native Light-O-Rama network protocol (the green line) that connects to our various types of controllers over standard computer network wire.  We recommend Cat 5 LAN cables available from us and off-the-shelf from your local big box store in the computer section.

4.  The Light-O-Rama professional or residential high voltage AC light controllers include special effects such as simple on/off, intensities, smooth fading, twinkling, shimmering.  Over 200 controllers can be daisy chained, mixed and matched on one LOR network giving you the ability to command thousands of channels.  Need more channels?  Add another Light-O-Rama network.

5.  Electrical power is supplied to the controller placed close to your lights so you don’t need to run long extension cords.  Commands from the Software Sequencing Suite Suite are performed on each controller.  Power to each of the attached lighting circuits is controlled independently.  Think of having many dimmer switches that the computer can change very quickly and independently.

6.  Light-O-Rama DIO32 motherboard connected to standard LOR network.  Over 200 controllers can be daisy chained, mixed and matched on one LOR network giving you the ability to command thousands of channels.  Need more channels?  Add another Light-O-Rama network.

7.  Connection from motherboard to DIO8RLY relay daughter card to control simple on/off devices such as fans, motors, large relays, etc.
